IDAHO LIVING

The Best Sushi in the TV?

This one is for our fellow sushi lovers! Now, we know some of you may be thinking, “Good sushi? In Idaho!?” Friends, make no mistake, Idaho strikes again! There’s no accident this state is referred to as the GEM state. There’s gems all throughout, including restaurants! There happens to be quite an array of noteworthy sushi restaurants in the Treasure Valley that deserve the limelight. We had the pleasure of experiencing what was voted the best of the best by our Instagram followers, and we were not disappointed — not in the slightest!

Ahi Sushi in Eagle is owned by a couple who moved from San Diego, California to provide a better life for their children. They came from a family of fishermen and decided that the Treasure Valley needed a taste of fresh fish. What began as a trial run and short term opportunity, turned into a full-time adventure for their close friend and now head Sushi Chef, Dan.

Dan gave us the inside scoop on what makes Ahi stand apart from the rest. Starting with the fact that they overnight their fish straight from Hawaii! If you have never been to Hawaii or just haven’t gotten around to it yet, you are practically experiencing the same thing minus the beach, but it’s right in our backyard!

We started off with their most popular roll, the A-Bomb. We quickly realized what made this their most popular sushi roll… Even our non-sushi fan on the team enjoyed it! Filled with spicy yellowtail and topped with a thick piece of salmon, then drizzled with jalapeno sauce, cilantro, and damn sauce… and “damn” the sauce is sooo good! The fish is incredibly fresh, it practically melts in your mouth. The sauce is so flavorful, you don’t even need to dip it in soy sauce and wasabi, but you still can if you want!

Next, we tried their sushi, sushi sushi. No rice. Just fish. The ultimate test when it comes to quality fish. WOW, we were blown away. It made us feel like we were on the coast, enjoying fish as fresh as it gets with the mist of the ocean blowing on our faces. Yes, it was THAT good. It wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience.

The food is fantastic, but how is the service? The service is impeccable. Dan’s favorite part of the job is watching customers do the happy food dance when they take those delicious bites. His joyous personality is contagious.

If you are a sushi lover, or even if you’re not, there is something for everyone on the menu. We challenge our non-sushi lovers to just try one of their rolls…It might just change your mind and make you a fellow sushi fanatic!
