IDAHO LIVING

Idahoan Entrepreneur: Brittney Kincannon

We sat down with Brittney of Boise-based Kincannon Photography to learn more about what sets her and her studio apart from the many options of professional photographers throughout the region. Brittney and her husband knew in their hearts it was time to relocate from their current living situation years ago, so they decided to look for homes all over America, narrowing their choices down to cities by safety, costs of homes, and proximity to family. Enter, the beautiful state of Idaho! This beautiful family contacted a realtor to purchase their home in the Treasure Valley that checked every box off their list, and drove the night they closed on their out-of-state house with their key waiting for them under the doormat of their brand new home. The journey of settling into their new life began, and Kincannon Photography set roots in a brand new state with brand new possibilities!

When did you know you wanted to own your own business?

In 2010, I lost my uncle to suicide. The first thing that I sought was a photograph of my uncle and me. I looked anywhere and everywhere until I found one. The peace I felt in that moment, where a single portrait brought me such comfort, is what sparked that flame that has grown into what Kincannon Photography is today. I just knew at that moment that I wanted to bring that same feeling of comfort and peace to others. Within 5 months of losing my uncle, I started Kincannon Photography and made it my mission to fill other people’s homes with tangible photographs of them with their family.

How does your business stand out from the rest?

We offer a complete service and continue where most others stop. Once someone hires our studio, they’re provided with a session guide to help them with what to wear and how to best prepare for their session. After their session takes place and their images are ready to view, we use software to take photographs of their walls in their home and input the images from their session on the walls of their home. This allows us to create custom wall galleries and show our clients what sizes and images look best in their space. After they’ve selected their albums, canvases, and framed portraits, we offer to hang their portraits for them, saving them the stress and time so they can spend more time with their family and less time worrying about designing an album and framing and hanging portraits.

Who inspires you daily?

My family is the thing that inspires me the most. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that we only have so much time with our family to create memories, and that memory can come and go in an instant. The only way to capture that moment in time is by capturing it in an image. This drives me to continue on my quest to provide people that captured memory.

Why do you do what you do?

My mission is to take you from “I keep forgetting to print my images” or “I don’t know where to start.” to “I love seeing my family portraits grace the walls of my home!” At Kincannon Photography, I offer family’s tangible photographs such as Prints, Framed Canvases, Custom Designed Albums, and Beautiful Wall Galleries that they’ll be able to cherish for a lifetime. After a session, I love showing families how wonderful it is to walk into their living room and see that jaw-dropping canvas of them with their loved ones hanging on the walls of their home, and how amazing it feels to relive their family memories through a beautifully designed album. When children leave the nest and head off to college, I want parents to have the luxury of reaching for that family album at a moment’s notice. When you’re having a rough day, I want you to be able to glance into your living room and see that beautiful family portrait of you and your loved ones.

Favorite thing about owning your own business?

The flexibility.

Why here in Idaho?

While we started our business nearly 10 years ago in Orange County, California, and still photograph families there, I feel like the initial response to why we built a location in Idaho is, “Why not in Idaho?” haha. Idaho is such a family-oriented place that I just knew we needed to build our family-based business here as well. We live here and raise our family here, so it seems only fitting to contribute by serving families in the area with world-class family portrait services.

Some of the things I’ve frequently heard over the last ten years we’ve been in business are:

“My last family pictures are still sitting as digital files on my computer. I never did anything with them.”

“I keep meaning to print my pictures, but just don’t have the time.”

“I have no idea where to hang pictures.”

“I need an updated family portrait.”

“My child is graduating, and I’d love some senior pictures in an album of her before she goes off to college.”

“I just want someone to do all the printing, framing, and album designing for me.”

That’s where we come in. If any of these are statements you’ve made, we’d LOVE to help. 🙂
